The Sox closed out the first half of the season with a sweep of the reeling Mariners, vaulting over the Twinkies into sole possession of first place at the break.
The Sox have been outhit the past two games and yet managed to win. I don't know if that was just because the Mariners are in a funk, or because the Sox are good at winning close games. I'm hoping the latter, but I suppose we'll find out in the second half.
The Sox won the game 4-3, but it was even closer than that, if that's possible. Carlos Lee
took a HR away from the Mariners with a great catch against the wall, while Randy Winn
had a ball go off his glove for a HR. If either of those two plays are reversed, the Sox don't get the win today.
With the win the Sox again have the best record in baseball in 1-run games.
I had promised a mid-season report, and I will deliver. Eventually. I began a lengthy write-up yesterday, and lost everything because I didn't save. I was too angry to start again, but we've go a couple days off, so I'm going to get started again tonight.
