Derailed

The Sox train hit a rough spot in the tracks today. Nothing went right for the Sox today. Once the ball hit deep into the stands by Ross Gload with the bases loaded was correctly ruled a foul ball, the Sox had missed the "MO" train. Even though he was able to hit the next pitch for a 2-run double, the air had already left the sox balloon.

The Cubs outplayed the Sox in every phase of the game toady. They did all the little things you need to do to win the baseball games. They hit, pitched, ran the bases, and fielded the ball. The Sox didn't.

There was no real reason to think that the Sox would continue their hot stretch against some of the best RHP's in baseball. 5 games was a nice run. Beating Zambrano, Maddux, Silva, Radke, & Santana consecutively is quite a task. That is a play-off like stretch of pitching match-ups and the Sox performed admirably. They get there shot again tomorrow against Maddux. If they can pepper him for run like they did in their last meeting, I like the Sox chances.

More important than how the hitters fare versus Maddux tomorrow, is how Felix Diaz deals with seeing the same team twice in the same week. Another solid performance out of Diaz should earn him a permanent spot on the Sox staff, wherever that may be. He could end up in the pen if the Sox trade for another starter, or could even end up in the rotation even with Schoeneweis coming back off the DL. Either way, I like the kid's chances.
