The Sox just plain suck on the West Coast. There's no logical explanation for it.
Mark Prior was pulled with a "tender elbow
" in the second inning of the Cubs game. There is no timetable for his return to the rotation. Both his and Kerry Wood's injuries earlier this year were initially classifies as minor, and would not require missing much time. Both spent significant time on the DL. The Cubs and the Tribune have had a history of hiding injuries. Which makes this Mark Prior quote even more interesting.
"It's something I've been dealing with on and off since spring training. It has been kind of a mental battle, going in every game and battling myself to make sure I'm all right, make sure I'm healthy. Hopefully we can get some answers this time on what it really is. I can't tell you where I'm at or where I'm going to be. Trust me, I want to know what's going on more than anybody. Going in start after start, not knowing what [kind of stuff] I was going to have, being up, being downit has been very frustrating. I figured after nine days off it would subside, and maybe some of the discomfort would go away. I felt great the last three, four days, and I felt great warming up. It felt good through the first three or four hitters. I don't know what happened."
So it's been bothering Prior all year, and he just now came out with it. Interesting. -- Kerry Wood has built a career out of one 20 strikeout performance 6 years ago. He's yet to win more than 14 games in a season. Looks like Mark Prior might start heading the same route. He pulled a hamstring on the basepaths in 2002, got knocked out before the ASB last season, and had the "achilles" injury earlier this season. What's the over/under on how long until he requires Tommy John Surgery?
Looks like my odds from yesterday about where Randy Johnson was likely headed need to be updated.
