I've been working on a cleaner more professional look to the site for a few days. Last night I decided that I'd give this a trial run and see how it works out. Let me know what you think.
I was reading through some articles that I may have missed online, and I came across this one
in the Daily Herald
. Apparently Harold Baines
will most likely not be returning as White Sox bench coach next season.
"I've learned a lot, but I can't say I've enjoyed it," Baines said before Wednesday night's loss to the Twins. "I think I want to do something different, be more active. There's a lot of idle time that I don't enjoy, but that's part of this job.
"It hasn't been decided yet. I like being on the coaching staff, but not necessarily as the bench coach. We'll wait and see what happens. I haven't even talked about it yet. It's just something I've been thinking about."
When Joe Nossek
resigned I was extremely disappointed. I thought that Nossek would be a calming influence on the bench and someone Ozzie could lean on in his first season in a managerial post. And that's not even mentioning that Nossek was the best sign stealer in baseball. His absence has severely hurt the running game, both offensively and defensively.
I also found this blurb in the Daily Herald
"I'm going to do the best I can to get him some more at-bats," Guillen said. "I want to win as many games as I can, and I know what this kid can do. I've watched him play before. But we will see him play a little bit more in the future."
I guess that explains why Valdez hasn't seen any playing time. But it doesn't explain why his playing time has been at second base or why Ozzie believes that Timo Perez in right field and Ross Gload in left is going to win games.
