Gammo Notes

There's a bunch of little things that have gone on in White-Sox-Nation during the last 48 hours, so it's time to break out the best friend of sportswriters everywhere: The "notes" column.

  • Mark Buehrle pitched 5 pain free innings Tuesday, throwing 90 pitches, and yielding 3 runs (2 earned).
Cheat's take: I told you there would be nothing to worry about.
  • Wilson Valdez was put on waivers, and subsequently claimed by the New York Mets.
Cheat's take: No big loss. There was a time when I was somewhat comfortable with Valdez/Harris platoon at second. Pablo Ozuna and Tadahito Iguchi have made that scary possibilty just a distant memory. Thank God.
  • Ben Davis clears Waivers?
Cheat's take: Wha??? Wow, I didn't see that one coming. I've had what I thought was the sox roster set(see below) since KW's comments about Pablo Ozuna back at Sox fest. Davis' name was on it every time. Chris Widger, not Jamie Burke, should replace him.
  • Felix Diaz goes on the 15 day DL.
Cheat's take: Diaz was pulled from a game about a week ago with shoulder stiffnes, but this confuses me a little, because I assume they would have desinated him first.
  • A Robert Person sighting
Cheat's take: He never really got a shot last year when he blew out his Achilles in spring training. As last season proved, you can never have too many 6th starter candidates filling up the Charlotte rotation.
  • Hermanson suspension reduced to one game.
Cheat's take: 3 games wouldn't have been a big deal, but a suspension of only one game virtually assures that the Sox will only carry 11 pitchers.
  • So what does the roster look like then?
    1. C - AJ Pierzynski
    2. 1B - Paul Konerko
    3. 2B - Tadahito Iguchi
    4. SS - Juan Uribe
    5. 3B - Joe Crede
    6. LF - Scott Podsednik
    7. CF - Aaron Rowand
    8. RF - Jermaine Dye
    9. DH - Carl Everett
    10. SP - Mark Buehrle
    11. SP - Freddy Garcia
    12. SP - Orlando Hernandez
    13. SP - Jon Garland
    14. SP - Jose Contreras
    15. CL - Shingo Takatsu
    16. RP - Damaso Marte
    17. RP - Dustin Hermanson
    18. RP - Cliff Politte
    19. RP - Luis Vizcaino
    20. RP - Neal Cotts
    21. BN - Willie Harris
    22. BN - Pablo Ozuna
    23. BN - Ross Gload
    24. BN - Timo Perez
    25. BN - Chris Widger
    26. DL - Frank Thomas
    27. Left out - Kevin Walker
Cheat's take: Wow, it's going to be a tough decision -- it wouldn't be for me [insert evil laugh] -- who gets dropped when Frank comes off of the DL. I'm guessing by that time it will be apparent who's in least favor with Ozzie and Kenny. I think there is an outside chance that Willie Harris ends up in Charlotte, with Kevin Walker on the team. If not, the sox should just contact the Cubs, if you're left handed and can throw a ball sixty-feet-six-inches, they've got a contract for you.
